TODAY’S PERSPECTIVE

Zuckerberg Protects Against the “Uber-ification” of AI

AI hype is strong again this week as Meta released their latest open-source AI model, Llama 3.1. People are freaking out because it’s a very large and powerful model, and open source – meaning that you can download the AI model, customize it, and use it on your own servers.

Even if you don’t jump into using Llama 3.1 today, we’re going to explain one of the top reasons that open source AI matters:

Many people are worried about the price of AI being artificially low.

We’ve all been burned by the originally low prices of Uber hooking us, only to rise and rise over time. So it’s not surprising that people assume the same will happen with AI.

Barring major technological changes – we think this is unlikely to happen. The economics of AI do genuinely get cheaper over time as the models are optimized and initial upfront costs are distributed across usage.

But open source models protect against this even more.

Even if the cost of AI from closed source providers like OpenAI goes up, you’ll easily be able to switch to an open source model on your own servers.

Yes, there is some work required to switch from one AI provider to another.

But if we’ve learned anything from the past 24 months of AI, it’s that we’re going to have a healthy and competitive landscape of AI providers for the foreseeable future.

USE CASE

Brainstorm on the Go with ChatGPT!

If you’ve ever felt stuck on a problem or during a brainstorming session, you’re going to love this way to supercharge yourself – and all you need is the ChatGPT mobile app.

Here's how it works:

  • Open the ChatGPT app and click the headphone icon.

  • Start a conversation with ChatGPT about your problem.

  • Let it ask you questions and suggest solutions.

  • When you're done, ask ChatGPT to summarize your thoughts and draft an action plan.

You can access this conversation anytime, anywhere. Try it out during your next brainstorming session. You'll be amazed at how much more productive you can be.
