TODAY’S PERSPECTIVE
3 tips to future-proof your SEO strategy for SearchGPT, Perplexity & beyond
The problem with ChatGPT is it’s not inherently connected to the internet.
Meaning that unless your brand or business was in OpenAI’s initial training data before their knowledge cutoff of October 2023, you won’t be in it. AND you won’t really be able to change how you show up.
All of that changes when ChatGPT and similar LLMs are connected to the internet.
Until last week – Perplexity.ai had been the leader of the pack in this category. But OpenAI announced their testing of a new internet-enabled ChatGPT, SearchGPT.
With this new category of chatbots on the rise, today we’re going to talk about 3 important tips to be prepared for the coming wave of internet-enabled AI chatbots.
Tip #1: Understand the upcoming shift
If Google is a search engine, SearchGPT is best described as an answer engine.
An answer engine has 2 key differences:
It needs diverse sources of information to build the best answer
People probably won’t click through to the sources as much
That means that getting your content to show in one of these answer engines may be more of a brand building exercise like social media content, than as clear of a direct traffic source as it is today.
Tip #2: Build in-depth content
Expert-led content is all the rage in B2B marketing right now.
AI-powered content workflows are making it easier than ever to repurpose passively generated content (like sales calls, product team briefings, executive keynotes) into insights and wisdom your customers and AI search engines love.
If you haven’t built repurposing workflows, start today. (also hit reply if you’d like us to talk more about that)
What’s the #1 thing people hate about AI chatbots?
They hallucinate or make up information. That’s why internet-enabled versions are appealing; they show their sources for fact-checking. OpenAI plans to partner with high-authority publishers and news organizations, creating an authority ranking similar to Google’s PageRank.
To be included, you should focus on building up your website authority.
